Cisco (Tandberg) Integration OCS

The interoperability between Cisco (Tandberg) and Microsoft facilitates the direct registration and authentication of the Cisco (Tandberg) video conference systems and the MS Office Communication Server. In this way these systems are displayed as contacts or resources in the MS OCS user's contact list. With a simple click on this contact list, a visual connection to a registered Cisco (Tandberg) terminal is established - e. g. directly from the desk to the boardroom. Cisco (Tandberg) video conference systems can be linked directly to a certain user and can use the user's identity integrated in the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. For instance, in this way a member of staff can be reached through his/her Cisco (Tandberg) High Definition (HD) desktop video system at his or her workplace or while travelling through his/her Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007-enabled webcam.

Visual communication with partner companies can likewise be made via the Cisco (Tandberg) High Definition Multipoint Conferencing Bridges (Cisco (Tandberg) Codian) which is also displayed in the contact list of the Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 user as a resource, regardless of which standards-based video systems are used there. Furthermore the Multipoint Conferencing solution by Cisco (Tandberg) ensures that different terminals are able to communicate in first-class HD quality in one and the same conference while further participants start to take part via webcam. This interoperability offers advantages for staff worldwide and the efficiency of visual communication in business quality. At the same time, the technology is intelligible to all users.

Components of the solution:

Microsoft Office Communication Server - The enterprise server for communication in real time; provides instant messaging, presence, audio-video conferencing and web conferencing as part of the enterprise solution.
Microsoft Office Communicator - The PC based client software component which gives computer staff the opportunity to communicate in real time by means of voice, web and data conferences.
Cisco (Tandberg) MXP video conference systems - stationary High Definition (HD), telepresence and video conference solutions.
Cisco (Tandberg) Codian MCU 4500 series - The most powerful High Definition multipoint conferencing bridge; it provides complete and permanent presence for all conferences, full transcoding and it is ideal for environments with terminals from different manufacturers.
Cisco (Tandberg) Management Suite (TMS) - A centralized management system; scalable and user-friendly. For intelligible and full control of internal and external video systems.

As with LifeSize and Polycom, there are also limits which stem from the Office Communicator. It is important to know that the Office Communicator Client nowadays is the limiting factor considering resolution and refresh rate. Calls between Cisco (Tandberg) systems which are registered in the OCS continue to produce HD and Full HD with 30 or 60 frames per second respectively with an aspect ratio of 16:9. However, the OC Client is only able to send or receive CIF in 4:3 format at 15 frames per second. This is soon going to change as Cisco (Tandberg) has developed a media gateway which implements and transcodes the proprietary MS format RTVideo to H.264.

Features of the solution:

Suitable for single identity: In order to contact a user on his/her identity is chosen, regardless of where he or she currently is and with which terminal he or she answers your call.

Supports NTML authentication for access control.

Scalable multi-point MCU infrastructure provides communication between the users of the Microsoft Office Communicator and all standards-based video systems.

Manages and controls an end-to-end video network.

Cisco (Tandberg) MXP systems require a software version of F6.3 or higher. The MCU series Cisco (Tandberg) Codian 4200/4500 requires firmware of 2.2 (1.3) or higher, Cisco (Tandberg) TMS requires 11.8 or higher.
