POLYCOM Integration OCS
POLYCOM Integration OCS
In the case of Polycom, integration of desktop, group and room systems as well as telepresence solutions with the MS OCS is also possible. The MS Office Communicator 2007 and the Office Communication Server 2007 R1 and R2 are supported. Polycom supports CX UC telephones, the CX Conference Station (previously Microsoft Roundtable Camera), Polycom HDX High Definition room systems and HDX HD single-position systems, RPX and TPX telepresence solutions, the MCU series RMX2000 and RMX 4000 as well as the traditional Standard Definition systems of the VSX series.
The devices of the HDX series are registered and authenticated with the OCS (secure TLS authentication) and are thereby displayed in the OCS buddy list through presence information. They can be invoked by a simple click on the contact in the buddy list (point-to-point and multipoint calls). The MCU Polycom RMX 2000 4000 series can be integrated with the OCS as well - virtual meeting rooms (multipoint) in the RMX are displayed on the OCS buddy list as contacts and can be called up (accessed) by clicking. This allows users video conferences on-demand with Office Communicator participants and participants from the standards-based, professional video conference world - always in the knowledge that the participant is online and available. Polycom CX series telephones (CX 100/200/300/700) are also displayed on the buddy list and can be added to conferences as speaking participants.
As with LifeSize and Cisco (Tandberg) there are also limits which stem from the Office Communicator. It is important to know that the Office Communicator Client nowadays is the limiting factor in matters of resolution and refresh rate. Calls between Polycom systems which are registered on the OCS continue to produce HD and Full HD with 30 or 60 frames per second respectively with an aspect ratio of 16:9. However, an OC Client is only able to send or receive CIF in the 4:3 format at 15 frames per second. This will not change unless Microsoft licenses its hitherto proprietary Videocodec TR Video and CCCP to the manufacturers (Polycom, Cisco (Tandberg), LifeSize etc.) and unless these integrate it with their products.
Polycom HDX systems require a software version of 2.5.0.3 and higher. The MCU series RMX 2000/4000 requires firmware of 4.0.1.21 or higher.
