LifeSize Integration OCS
As the Microsoft Office Communication Server is a frequently used UC environment, we will restrict ourselves to it below. In principle, integration of LifeSize Hardware with the OCS requires an IP network, a MS Windows Domain Controller, the MS Office Communication Server, LifeSize terminals and ;-) a PC with a browser in order to use web interfaces. Integrating LifeSize is simple and fast and no additional software patch or equipment is necessary. Please find a detailed installation manual (7 pages) in our download area. LifeSize terminals integrated with the MS OCS support NTLM authentication, TLS for secure, encrypted communication, "call the Person not the Device", presence information - online, offline, bus and others.
LifeSize systems and terminals, like LifeSize Passport, LifeSize Express Team Room, are displayed on the OCS buddy list together with presence information and can be accessed with a click by the participants in the office communicator. LifeSize MCUs appear as participants with their virtual meeting rooms as well and can be called up by clicking. Therefore, point-to-point shifting and MCUs from participants in MS Office Communicator and LifeSize High Definition video conference systems can be carried out quickly and easily.
The Office Communicator client was the limiting factor in the matter of resolution and refresh rate so far. Calls between LifeSize systems registered at OCS continued to trigger HD and Full HD with 30 respectively 60 frames per second in 16:9 aspect ratio. But the OC client was only able to send and to rechieve CIF 4:3 with 15 frames per second. This changes now, upon LifeSize exchanges the previous proprietary video codec RT and CCCP with its own standards-compliant video codec. The Communicator provides both interoperability between PCs and standard conform video systems as well as Continuous Presence Multipoint Calls HD. Users can now enjoy full visual communication in full HD quality.
Interestingly, Life Size terminals are able to transcode with an integrated MCU. This means that a MCU made by LifeSize HD video conference systems and OCS-CIF-participants will provide the best possible video quality for all participants.
