ViDOFON Conferencing & Seaport Day 2010 | 821 Hamburg Harbour Birthday
On May, 7, 2010, ViDOFON organized the Conferencing & Seaport Day. This day was divided into two large agenda items "Conferencing" and "Seaport". The first part, "Conferencing", took place in the meeting rooms of Radisson BLU in the city of Hamburg. Here, the participants had the possibility to meet all manufacturers in one go.
Jörg Weisflog, CEO of ViDOFON AG, welcomed the guests in a short opening speech and gave an overview of the company profile and the services of ViDOFON AG. He particularly mentioned the merger of ViDOFON AG with the Hamburg company DEKOM, a computer retailer for media technology in the city. With this merger, in existence since January 2010, both companies have supplemented their portfolios and together form a strong partner for professional one-stop conferencing solutions.
Kay Ohse of Polycom started the series of lectures with a view of the future of video communication. In partnership with his colleague Michael Ott, they focused the presentation on Unified Communications as well as on the possibilities of increasing efficiency for companies.
After a short break, the TANDBERG team continued the series. Dirk Heldner presented the infrastructure portfolio and then went on to Cisco, which had announced the takeover of TANDBERG at the beginning of the year. Here the desktop video application TANDBERG Movi, which hitherto had only been available for PC's, made its absolute debut with its first video connection in the world using a Mac version. After this, the approved PC Movi client was presented by a live video link.
After the ample buffet lunch at Radisson BLU's Filini restaurant, Andreas Wienhold of LifeSize presented the history of the company, the product portfolio as well as the advantages of video conferencing. This lecture was underlined by a live video link with Texas and LifeSize CEO Craig Malloy as well as CTO Casey King, at which the LifeSize novelty Video Center was presented. The LifeSize Video Center allows HD streaming, recording and automatic publication with the greatest ease of operation and at the push of a button.
The individual lectures were rounded off by a panel discussion with all manufacturers and Jörg Weisflog, CEO of ViDOFON, and Simon Härke, CTO of ViDOFON, at one table. They answered the partially critical questions about the subject "Future of Video Conferencing" by the moderator or the audience. In this regard, the open dialogue between the manufacturers but also with the customers and ViDOFON was especially interesting. The lack of time was seen as a shortcoming as a more profound discussion would have been desirable at some points. Consequently, this way of manufacturer presentation will play a more important role next year.
The second part of the day, "Seaport", continued with a joint two-hour tour of the harbour on the traditional 100-year-old launch MS Viktoria on the occasion of the Hamburg Harbour birthday entry flotilla. The harbour welcomed its guests in an elegant and Hanseatic shade of grey, but this could not dampen the mood of the people.
The evening was spent at a champagne reception and a delicious dinner at the ballroom of the Marriott Hotel. The crowning finale to this unique day was the draw where the participants were able to win an extensive Logitech package (sponsored by LifeSize) and an iPod nano including loudspeaker (sponsored by Polycom).
The idea of bringing together all manufacturers round the table is already in its third year and is gaining in popularity both with the audience and the manufacturers.
Look forward to next year. Please keep 6th May, 2011 in mind!
